I am beyond thrilled to share the success of our very first event under Generation Pionera, EmpowerMinds: Mental Health and STEM Summit! As part of our mission to empower Hispanic and first-generation students, this event marked a significant milestone in our journey.
EmpowerMinds was a dynamic and transformative event designed to inspire and empower middle school students through an engaging exploration of STEM fields and mental wellness. Held over two days, the summit was a vibrant blend of enthusiasm, learning, and inspiration. We curated a diverse range of activities including hands-on workshops, Q&A sessions, personal testimonials, and enlightening speeches from experts across various fields.
The primary goal of this summit was to provide valuable insights and inspiration to young minds, emphasizing the importance of pursuing passions in STEM and prioritizing mental well-being. Our guest speakers, from chemical engineers and scientists to software engineers, social workers, school advisors, and social media content creators, shared their journeys and experiences. Their stories and advice aimed to show the students that they can achieve great things in STEM while also taking care of their mental health.
The EmpowerMinds summit took place at Decker Middle School in Austin, TX, where over 250 students, faculty, and staff joined us for an unforgettable experience. The event featured a captivating science show, a series of interactive workshops, fun group activities, and special guest speakers. The atmosphere was electric, filled with curiosity and excitement as students engaged with the content and activities.
This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our partner, Whisker Technologies, and their co-founders Yahaira Cueva and Kenneth Natera. Their dedication and commitment to our mission were instrumental in making this summit a reality. Additionally, I am deeply grateful for the hard work and passion of our amazing team members: Fernanda Sulantay Vargas, Gabriela Cervantes, Benjamín F.
